The exhibition Anatomie Spontanee explores the relationship between art and food as a cultural, symbolic, and relational practice. Curated by Paola Farfaglio and Benedetta Carpi De Resmini, the project brings together the works of several artists who collaborated throughout 2025 on two parallel projects: Anatomie del nutrimento, curated by Cities Art Projects (with Caretto–Spagna and Gaia e Greta Scaramella), and Roots and Routes, developed by Latitudo Art Projects as part of the European platform Magic Carpets (Camille Orlandini, Ombretta Gamberale and Gaia Scaramella).
Both projects involved different communities from Rome’s Municipio III and Municipio XV, exploring food as a tool for encounter and as a language capable of activating collective, educational, and reflective practices.
The exhibition narrates elements in transformation: ingredients, the gestures that shape them, and art itself, which observes, deconstructs, and recomposes reality. It invites viewers to reflect on how art and food share a common essence, continuous transformation, mutual nourishment, and the potential that emerges whenever one engages with living matter.
The exhibition takes place at Parentesi, an exhibition space within Roma Smistamento – TWM Factory, a former industrial building now a cultural center dedicated to contemporary research, artistic residencies, and participatory projects.
The exhibition invites the public to observe how art and food share the same transformative tension: both change through use, time, and relationships, generating new imaginaries from living matter and shared experience.
THE ARTISTS
The artist duo Caretto–Spagna present ESCULENTA, a table-device that makes visible the continuous cycle of consumption, regeneration, and regrowth of cabbages. Divided into three sections (preparation, revitalization, and regrowth) the installation allows viewers to observe the metamorphosis of plant matter over the course of the exhibition.
Gaia and Greta Scaramella present the outcomes of milk-focused workshops held at the Saxa Rubra school. Gaia presents Milk, a work centered on milk as primary nourishment and a meditation on the importance of care, also referencing the condition of children deprived of milk in war contexts. Greta presents a series of milk-themed fables, symbolic stories dedicated to the children involved in the workshops.
Ombretta Gamberale exhibits Ricette memorabili (Memorable Recipes), a collective recipe book and a series of engravings born from the exchange of culinary memories with the family home L’Approdo and the Galline Bianche Library.
Camille Orlandini, artist in residence, presents Faire Pain Commun and the video installation Impastare da una sponda all’altra del Tevere (Kneading from One Bank of the Tiber to the Other), works that intertwine bread, water, and the stories of the places where the residency took place.
Nordine Sajot exhibits Ex-voto against war, an installation that returns the everyday act of eating to its most vulnerable and urgent dimension.
